Baptism - Through baptism, our sins are forgiven, we receive the dignity of adopted children of God and are incorporated into the Body of Christ. This incorporation is our initiation into the Church. Thus we celebrate this sacrament at a Sunday Mass so that we, the Body of Christ, may welcome each new member.
Adults - Preparation for baptism along with confirmation and Eucharist occurs through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This begins each September and concludes at the Easter Vigil.
Children who have reached the age of reason - 7 years or older. Preparation for baptism along with confirmation and Eucharist occurs through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for Children (RCIC). This begins each October and concludes with the Easter Vigil.
Infants - Parents need to plan on attending one preparation session prior to the baptism. Sessions are held on the first Wednesday of the odd numbered months from 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. It is a good idea to consider taking this session by the fifth month of pregnancy. Baptisms are not celebrated during the Church's penitential season of Lent.
At least one of the Godparents need to be at least 16 years old, confirmed and practicing Catholics.
Celebrations may be held at a Saturday evening or Sunday Mass or at the group baptism on the last Sunday of each month at 12:30 p.m.
Call the Parish Office at 410-427-7500 for more information or to register for preparation sessions.
